KGB: Modern Craft, Concrete Roots and Scent That Tells a Story

KGB: Modern Craft, Concrete Roots and Scent That Tells a Story

Some makers reinvent their lives by reinventing what’s possible — and that’s exactly what Kai, the creator behind KGB, did in 2020.

After being laid off from her corporate job, Kai made a bold decision: instead of returning to the familiar, she leaned fully into her creativity. What started as an uncertain moment became the spark that launched a whole new chapter built from imagination, intention, and her own hands.

From Reset to Reinvention

Kai had always loved making things but for the first time, she had the space to explore that passion without constraints. She began experimenting in her garage, searching for a material that felt accessible, modern, and full of possibility.

She found it in concrete.

Strong, sculptural, minimal, and surprisingly adaptable, concrete became the foundation of her brand. She began hand-casting vessels in small batches, each piece shaped with purpose and a distinct, modern sensibility. Through her work, Kai brought a fresh, contemporary voice to craft — one that blurs the line between art and everyday function.

Where Form Meets Fragrance

As KGB evolved, Kai wanted to add another layer to the experience: scent.

She started creating a line of fragrances inspired by the places she has lived — notes pulled from memory, landscape, weather, and feeling. Soon, her concrete vessels became hand-poured candles, merging texture, weight, scent and atmosphere into one cohesive piece.

Crafting Modernity, One Piece at a Time

Behind every vessel and candle is Kai’s desire to contribute something new to the handmade space.  Something clean, distinct, and forward-thinking. She approaches each piece with a modern perspective while staying deeply rooted in the honesty of materials.

Her mission isn’t just to make beautiful things; it’s to expand what craft can look and feel like today.
