We're officially a Bottle Shop! With some really tasty Pour Choices!
Walk into Akin Cooperative and you might hear someone say “natty wine” before you’ve even made it to the bar.
But what exactly is natural wine?
Despite the growing popularity of natural wine, it can still feel a little mysterious. Maybe you’ve heard it described as funky, cloudy, alive, or even a little weird. The truth is, natural wine isn’t a trend. It’s a return to the way wine was made for thousands of years before industrial agriculture and mass production took over.
So, What Is Natural Wine?

Natural wine begins in the vineyard. The grapes are typically grown organically or biodynamically, without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers. In the cellar, the winemaker takes a hands-off approach, allowing native yeasts to ferment the wine naturally and using little to no additives.
In Alice Feiring’s book “Natural Wine for the People”, she describes natural wine as wine made with respect for the land, the grapes, and the people who drink it. Rather than manipulating the wine into tasting the same year after year, natural winemakers embrace vintage variation, place, and personality.
Think of it less as a product and more as an agricultural expression.
Why Does Natural Wine Sometimes Taste Different?
If your experience with wine has mostly been supermarket bottles, natural wine can be surprising.
You might encounter:
-
Bright acidity
-
Earthy or savory notes
-
A touch of funk
-
Slight cloudiness from unfiltered wine
-
Unexpected aromas that evolve as the wine opens
Not every natural wine is funky, and not every natural wine is orange wine. The category is incredibly diverse. Some bottles are crisp and refreshing, others are deep and structured, and some seem to change completely from the first sip to the last.
That’s part of the fun.
A Different Way to Choose Wine

One of our favorite ideas from Natural Wine for the People is that wine doesn’t have to be intimidating.
You don’t need to memorize regions, vintages, or tasting notes. You don’t need to know the difference between a dozen grape varieties before opening a bottle.
Instead, choose wine the way you might choose a book, a record, or a piece of art. Follow curiosity. Follow feeling. Follow the story.
Maybe you’re drawn to a label. Maybe you want something bright and citrusy for a patio afternoon. Maybe you’re gathering friends and want a bottle that sparks conversation.
Those are all good reasons to choose a wine.
Pour Choices from the Arts District
Located in the heart of the Las Vegas Arts District, our bottle shop is built around discovery.
We like to think of our shelves as a collection of pour choices rather than perfect choices. Wines made by farmers, families, and small producers who care deeply about what they’re creating.
Whether you’re a longtime natural wine enthusiast or picking up your very first bottle, there’s no secret password required.
Tell us what you usually drink.
Tell us what you’re eating.
Tell us what kind of day you’re having.
We’ll help you find something that fits.
Wine Is Better When It’s Shared

Natural wine has a way of bringing people together. Maybe it’s because the wines themselves are less polished and more human. Maybe it’s because every bottle comes with a story.
At Akin Cooperative, we’re proud to be part of a neighborhood that values creativity, craftsmanship and community. Our bottle shop reflects those same values, offering wines that celebrate people, place, and the joy of gathering around a table.
So next time you’re wandering through the Arts District, stop in, browse the shelves, and discover a new favorite.
No wine snobbery.
No pressure.
Just good bottles, good stories, and a little curiosity in every pour.
And if your curious about learning more about natural wine we also a few copies of Natural Wine For The People at the shop!
Cheers!
