“OVERTHINKING"

Overthinking is a fitting title for this series of wearable art I present to you.

As a concept, overthinking is something that I as a creative, struggle with heavily…to the point that I often fail to produce my art to the physical world.

The other part of it is that I have struggled in the past few years with finding my voice creatively or regaining my voice. So I went back to the drawing board.

I had to revisit what SACREDBRED is and what it means to me and why the brand name is what it is. In dissecting the brand name and its meaning, a lot of self-discovery came to the surface. Some of it renewed discovery. Some of it a whole new discovery.

SACREDBRED broken down to its most minimalist definition means, SET APART. It defines me as someone who doesn’t fit in many places in this society. Because of my many travels and experiences however, I have learned masking very well. But I’ve also realized that my verbal thoughts never fit in anywhere and so they often stay in my head with no place to go. They swirl around and build upon each other and keep building. When I try to impart them into conversations with real people, there is often a disconnect because of their abstract nature. I fail to communicate what I see. (S)entences (B)roken, if you will.

The mantra or tagline for SACREDBRED is, “ICU” which literally translates as I See You. It’s hidden meaning is Integrated Collective Unconscious and it refers to my natural self as an Intuitive Introvert. Introverted Intuition is a cognitive function, dominant in INFJs that allows them to perceive patterns, possibilities, and underlying meanings in the world. It is a way of understanding information through abstract and symbolic thinking, often leading to insights and visions about the future…especially when society loves to tell you, “It’s not that deep.” Once I began to understand this about myself, I leaned into the concept of the overthinking, symbolic, and abstract nature of myself as well as the art and design I create from that space.

While I chose to express my thoughts and visions in clothing form, my hope is that it is embraced more as wearable art.

KEY MOTIFS:

• The Eye 👁️: my logo expressed in various forms. Symbolic of vision, insight, seeing hidden patterns.
• Wing 🪽: for SACRED.
• The numbers, 7, 11, 22: my sacred numbers.
• Stars: divine human form
• Overthinking: expressed by combining various symbols all at the same time, in the same space.
• Red: because of the Nevada heat.
